Guide Lines For Meets

Proper nutrition is no substitute for training, but getting the right nutrients at the right time will help you get the most out of your workouts and perform your best in competition.

General Guidelines

Eat every 2-4 hrs to maintain muscle glycogen and blood glucose.
Allow 1 ½ to 2 hrs between eating and competition.
Sip water or sports drink between meals or snacks.
Eat carbohydrates within 30 min to 1 hr after last event.

Following these guidelines during a swim meet can be a real challenge, but the longer the meet, the more important it is to eat regularly and adequately.  Making up for lost calories at the end of the day is not effective – your muscles need the energy during the meet.
